‘Monster’ Under the Bed Leads to Arrest

Additional Coverage:

A babysitter’s discovery of a “monster” under a child’s bed turned into a real-life nightmare in Great Bend, Kansas, earlier this week. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance call at a residence around 10:30 p.m. on Monday.

According to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office, the babysitter told deputies that a child had complained of a monster under the bed. When the babysitter checked, she found 27-year-old Martin Villalobos Jr. hiding there.

An altercation ensued between Villalobos and the babysitter, during which one of the children was knocked over. It is unclear whether the child or babysitter sustained any injuries. Villalobos, who had previously lived at the residence but was subject to a protection from abuse order, fled the scene before deputies arrived.

The following morning, Villalobos was located near the residence and apprehended after a brief foot chase. He was booked into the Barton County Jail on a hefty $500,000 bond, facing charges including aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and violation of a protection from abuse order.
