Pigeon Forge, TN—As a seasoned Disney World veteran with over 100 visits under my belt, I recently decided to venture into new theme park territory: Dollywood. Nestled in the Smoky Mountains, Dolly Parton’s namesake park offered a refreshing change of pace and several delightful surprises.
A highlight of my visit was the immersive Dolly Parton Experience. Through engaging exhibits and displays, I delved into the fascinating life and career of the country music icon. I even had the chance to step aboard one of Parton’s tour buses and marvel at her dazzling stage costumes and jewelry.
Foodies rejoice! Dollywood’s famed cinnamon bread lives up to the hype. Easily accessible throughout the park and resorts, including DreamMore and HeartSong, this delectable treat is a must-try.
Dollywood’s entertainment offerings rival those of Disney. From a lively country string band and a Southern gospel group to an educational birds-of-prey show, there’s something for everyone. “Heidi Parton’s Kin and Friends” was a personal favorite, showcasing the diverse musical talents of Parton’s niece and her accompanying performers.
Families with young children will appreciate the dedicated Country Fair area. With a cluster of kid-friendly attractions, carnival games, a charming picnic pavilion, and a splash pad, this area provides a convenient and enjoyable experience for the whole family.
Dollywood’s rotating festivals add another layer of excitement. Similar to Disney’s seasonal events, each festival boasts unique entertainment and food offerings. I was fortunate to experience the I Will Always Love You music festival, the first of the park’s five annual celebrations.
While parking can be a costly aspect of any theme park visit, Dollywood’s preferred parking option proved to be a worthwhile investment. For $50, I enjoyed convenient access to the closest lot, an exclusive security line, and a significantly reduced wait time compared to the main entrance.
Finally, Dollywood offers a plethora of photo opportunities. Showstreet, the park’s main entry area, boasts a giant Dollywood sign and a variety of charming art installations, providing the perfect backdrop for capturing memories.
