Celebrities Rally Around Rachel Zegler Amidst “Snow White” Remake Backlash

Rachel Zegler, star of Disney’s live-action “Snow White” remake, has found herself at the center of a storm of criticism following the film’s disappointing box office performance. While some Disney live-action remakes have raked in over a billion dollars, “Snow White” has struggled, grossing $143 million worldwide in its first two weeks, falling far short of estimated break-even projections.

Some critics have pointed fingers at Zegler, citing her political commentary during the film’s press tour, including remarks about the original film, as reasons for the remake’s underwhelming performance. However, a wave of support from fellow actors and musicians has emerged to defend Zegler against the backlash.

Zegler revealed that she has received private messages of encouragement from several high-profile figures, including Ariana Grande, Helen Mirren, and Lucy Liu. She praised Grande’s courage and resilience in the face of public scrutiny and described Jameela Jamil as a “big sister” figure, admiring her outspoken nature.

The support isn’t limited to private messages. Melissa Barrera, known for her role in the “Scream” franchise, publicly defended Zegler against what some considered a critical article in Variety.

Barrera shared a fan’s post praising Zegler’s integrity and dismissing the article’s portrayal of her as difficult and radical. Both Barrera and Zegler have previously used social media to express their views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Other celebrities showing apparent support for Zegler include indie artist Ethel Cain, who encouraged Zegler on Instagram not to be discouraged, and actor Pedro Pascal, who reportedly called Zegler an “icon” on his Instagram story.

However, not everyone has rallied to Zegler’s defense. Russell Brand criticized Zegler’s attitude, calling her “haughty” and attributing it to the inflated ego that can come with movie stardom.

Jonah Platt, son of “Snow White” producer Marc Platt, also criticized Zegler for what he perceived as bringing personal politics into the film’s promotion, suggesting it harmed the box office performance. He also accused Zegler of narcissism.

This followed reports that Marc Platt had met with Zegler regarding a social media post expressing support for Palestine.
