Globetrotter Finds Forever Home in Unexpected Location

After traversing 90 countries, world traveler Adam Luehrs has finally found his ideal homeā€”not in the bustling cities of Southeast Asia, the historic landscapes of Turkey, or the vibrant cultures of South America, but in the charming town of Guanajuato, Mexico.

Luehrs’s journey began in the US, but a thirst for adventure led him across the globe. He savored the culinary delights of Southeast Asia, forged deep connections with people in Turkey, and gained invaluable perspectives in Asia. While each location held its own allure, something was missing.

Southeast Asia, with its unmatched warmth and hospitality, captivated Luehrs. He fondly recalls the delicious food in Thailand, the underwater wonders of Koh Tao, and the vibrant energy of Bangkok.

Malaysia’s multicultural food scene also left a lasting impression. However, the cultural differences presented a barrier, making it difficult to envision a long-term future there.

Turkey offered a unique blend of history and modernity, with ancient mosques standing alongside trendy cafes. Luehrs cherished the long conversations and the feeling of standing between two worlds. However, the long journey back to the US and concerns about global events ultimately dissuaded him from settling there.

Asia, with its meticulous attention to detail and vibrant city life, also beckoned. From the efficient bullet trains of Japan to the bustling night markets of Taiwan, Luehrs found much to admire.

The high cost of living, however, proved a significant deterrent. Salaries couldn’t offset the expenses, leaving him feeling as though he’d be stuck in the same financial cycle as in the US.

South America, with its electric energy and captivating cultures, also held a strong appeal. From the tango rhythms of Argentina to the welcoming spirit of Colombia, Luehrs found himself drawn to the continent. However, price fluctuations and a sense of unfamiliarity made long-term planning difficult.

Ultimately, it was Guanajuato, Mexico, that captured Luehrs’s heart. The city’s vibrant culture, affordable living, and welcoming community provided the sense of belonging he had been searching for.

He wakes each morning to the colorful streets and soothing city sounds, grateful for the fresh produce, accessible cultural events, and the friendships he’s cultivated. The familiarity with American culture and the proximity to his family in the US further solidified his decision.

Luehrs acknowledges the unique charm of each place he visited, but Guanajuato offered the perfect blend of comfort, affordability, and community. He has found his forever home, a place where he can truly thrive.
