Tom Hardy Embraces a New Kind of Gangster in “MobLand”
Tom Hardy, known for his portrayals of tough guys in films like “Bronson,” “Legend,” and “The Dark Knight Rises,” takes on a different kind of gangster role in the Paramount+ series “MobLand.” As Harry Da Souza, a fixer for a London crime family, Hardy’s character navigates the underworld with a cool and collected demeanor, a departure from his usual repertoire of volatile characters.
In “MobLand,” Da Souza must locate the missing son of a rival gang to prevent a war. This contained and strategic approach to the criminal world intrigued Hardy, who drew inspiration from his performance in the 2013 thriller “Locke.” He describes the role as “an exercise in containment,” focusing on how Da Souza handles high-stakes situations with an unflappable attitude.
The series also marks a reunion between Hardy and director Guy Ritchie, who last collaborated on the 2008 film “RocknRolla.” While Hardy had a smaller role in that film, he now returns as a leading man, eager to utilize the experience he’s gained over the years.
Hardy expressed his enthusiasm for working with Ritchie again, praising the director’s distinct style and his ability to capture the world of gangsters. “MobLand” is currently airing weekly on Paramount+.
