Meghan Markle Talks Early Life and Career

Additional Coverage:

Duchess Meghan Markle recently sat down with the New York Times and reflected on her journey from humble beginnings to her current life in Montecito. “Don’t they know my life hasn’t always been like this?” she remarked, referencing her luxurious California home.

Before marrying Prince Harry and becoming a global figure, Meghan was raised in Los Angeles by her mother, Doria Ragland. Despite her mother working long hours, family meal traditions, including her grandfather’s love of hot sauce, remained a constant. “My father carried a bottle of Red Rooster hot sauce everywhere he went,” Ragland shared.

In her early twenties, Meghan worked hard to make ends meet while pursuing an acting career. She recalled a simpler time, living in a small apartment and enjoying affordable treats. From those modest beginnings, she built a successful career, first with her lifestyle blog, The Tig, and then as an actress, notably starring in Suits.

After marrying Prince Harry in 2018, Meghan retired from acting and became a member of the royal family. Two years later, the couple stepped down from their royal duties and relocated to Montecito with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Since then, Meghan has embarked on several ventures, including a Netflix documentary, the “Archetypes” podcast, and the lifestyle show With Love, Meghan. She also launched her brand, As Ever, featuring a range of products.

While her foray into the wellness world has been met with online criticism, Meghan remains unfazed. She acknowledges that others might be more skilled in certain areas, but emphasizes her passion for work and the desire to blend her professional and family life. “I need to work, and I love to work,” she stated, adding that she’s held a job since she was 13.

Despite the criticism, Meghan’s ventures have proven successful. Her Netflix series has been renewed for a second season, and her As Ever product line quickly sold out upon its launch.
