- A Pharmacist Shares The 5 Supplements To Consider Avoiding Because They ‘Don’t Even Work:’ Glutathione, More (shefinds.com)
Thinking about adding supplements to your wellness routine? A recent Instagram reel by pharmacist Ariana Medizade (@wellness.pharm) sheds light on five popular supplements she claims are ineffective and a waste of money.
1. NAD+ Supplements: While touted for anti-aging benefits, Medizade explains that oral NAD+ gets broken down in the gut and isn’t absorbed properly. She suggests nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) or resveratrol as alternatives.
2. Multivitamins: These convenient packages may not be as effective as they seem.
Medizade warns that the combined minerals compete for absorption, hindering their effectiveness. Targeting specific deficiencies with individual supplements is recommended.
3. Detox Teas: Don’t fall for the hype! Medizade reveals that detox teas primarily cause intestinal contractions, leading to temporary water weight loss and dehydration, not true detoxification.
4. Green Powders: While greens are important, Medizade cautions against most green powders due to their unclear ingredient blends, potential contamination, lack of fiber and live enzymes, and limited benefits compared to whole vegetables. Spirulina or chlorella are suggested as superior alternatives.
5. Glutathione Supplements: Medizade advises against these supplements due to poor absorption. She recommends N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) as a better option, as it provides cysteine, an amino acid crucial for glutathione production.
