Local Widow Finds Love Again After Heartbreaking Loss

Regina Lawless, author of “Do You,” met her late husband, Al, online in 1999. The pair, who connected through a Yahoo chat room, were together for 21 years and shared a son, Morgan. Tragically, Al died of a heart attack in May 2021 at age 45, leaving Regina a widow at just 40.

The couple’s financial dynamic shifted over the years. While Al initially supported Regina through college, her career eventually blossomed, taking her to a leadership role at Instagram. Al, who worked in manufacturing, was unfazed by the change, though his spending on sneakers and dining out increased with Regina’s income.

Al’s passing was sudden and unexpected. What initially seemed like indigestion turned into a devastating medical emergency.

Regina recalls the shock of learning Al was having a heart attack, and the heartbreak of his subsequent passing. The weeks that followed were a blur, culminating in a funeral on Al’s birthday.

With support from her sister, Regina navigated her grief and Morgan’s 16th birthday before seeking solace in a three-day retreat.

Remarkably, just seven months later, Regina met her current fiancé, Jeffrey. A chance encounter while out with friends led to a connection she describes as electric. Despite initial feelings of guilt, Regina, with the help of therapy, realized that embracing new love honored Al’s memory and his wish for her happiness.

Regina and Jeffrey are set to wed this October. Her story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of choosing to remain open to love, even in the face of profound loss.
