Bill Murray Addresses Past Allegations and Recent Incident
Bill Murray has responded to allegations of inappropriate behavior, including claims made by Geena Davis in her 2022 memoir. Davis alleges Murray behaved inappropriately on the set of their 1990 film “Quick Change,” including attempting to pull down her dress strap on “The Arsenio Hall Show” and insisting on using a massage device on her despite her refusals. She also claims Murray screamed at her on set in front of hundreds of people.
Murray called the allegations “outrageous,” telling the New York Times, “When someone has an episode like mine on ‘Being Mortal,’ the world goes searching for more proof that this person is a monster.” He added, “I’ve had interactions with hundreds of thousands of people over 40, 50 years.
You can come up with half a dozen [negative interactions]. If you really worked, you’d probably come up with a couple dozen.”
Murray also addressed the halt in production on the film “Being Mortal,” which was paused after a complaint of inappropriate behavior was filed against him. He expressed regret over the incident, stating he attempted to make peace but felt he was unfairly treated.
He described the incident as a masked kiss he gave a colleague, a gesture he considered humorous and had done before. He maintains it wasn’t meant to be inappropriate.
Separately, Murray was involved in a recent incident at a New York theater while promoting his film “The Friend.” A video shows Murray confronting a man he believed was being aggressive towards him, warning him against any further perceived “physical assault.” The man apologized as Murray was led away by security.
