Cabot Creamery Recalls Butter Due to Coliform Contamination

Nearly 2,000 pounds of Cabot Creamery’s Extra Creamy Premium Butter with sea salt has been recalled due to potential coliform contamination. The affected product, sold in two-stick (4-ounce) packages, was distributed in seven states: Arkansas, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. Consumers can identify the recalled butter by checking for a best-by date of September 9, 2025, lot number 090925-055, and item number 2038.

While the FDA has classified the recall as Class III, indicating a low risk of adverse health effects, consumers are advised to return the product to the place of purchase or discard it.

According to Agri-Mark, Cabot Creamery’s parent company, the vast majority of the recalled butter was recovered before reaching consumers. Only 17 packages were sold at retail, all within Vermont.

Agri-Mark stated that they have identified and addressed the cause of the contamination and confirmed that no other products were affected. The company emphasized its commitment to food safety and ongoing product monitoring.

No illnesses have been reported.
