- Greenpeace UK leader arrested for targeting American embassy with ‘ blood-red dye’: report (foxnews.com)
London—Greenpeace UK activists turned the U.S. Embassy pond a shocking shade of red Thursday morning to protest U.S. arms sales to Israel.
Six activists, including Greenpeace UK co-executive director Will McCallum, were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and conspiracy to cause criminal damage. The latter charge carries a potential 10-year prison sentence.
According to a Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the activists poured a non-toxic, biodegradable red dye into the embassy pond, which is accessible to the public. The spokesperson confirmed there was no breach of the embassy’s secure perimeter.
Greenpeace UK stated the activists used containers labeled “Stop Arming Israel,” which they transported on bicycles disguised as delivery bikes. The group alleges U.S. weapons sales are fueling the conflict in Gaza.
“We’ve turned the embassy pond blood-red because U.S. weapons continue to fuel an indiscriminate war,” said Areeba Hamid, co-executive director at Greenpeace UK. She called for both the U.S. and UK governments to halt arms sales to Israel.
Greenpeace UK released footage appearing to show the activists dumping the dye into the pond. The U.S.
State Department has not yet commented on the incident.
