CBS Mornings Surprises Gayle King with Star-Studded Send-Off for Upcoming Space Journey
A heartwarming surprise awaited Gayle King on the set of CBS Mornings this week. King, who is set to embark on a Blue Origin space flight, was caught off guard by her co-hosts, Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson, during a seemingly regular “Talk of the Table” segment.
Initially, King expressed apprehension, stating she “didn’t want to do this,” unaware of the touching tribute her colleagues had prepared. Dokoupil and Burleson quickly relieved her of her notes and pen, setting the stage for a surprise video montage.
The video featured an array of celebrities, from Drew Barrymore and Tom Hanks to Michael Strahan and Bill Nye, wishing King well on her upcoming adventure. Even William Shatner, who had previously appeared on the show and jokingly fueled King’s pre-flight jitters, offered words of encouragement. Adding to the heartfelt messages, King’s CBS Mornings co-stars shared their own expressions of pride and excitement.
Visibly moved, King expressed gratitude for the kind gesture, admitting to feeling both “overwhelmed” and “very frightened” but also “really excited” about the journey. She shared her interest in experiencing space firsthand and discovering how the journey might change her perspective.
Later in the week, the CBS Mornings team continued to celebrate King’s upcoming flight. With her departure just days away, King received a bouquet of yellow roses from the production crew as a symbol of good luck and support. Co-host Nate Burleson expressed the sentiment of the entire team, stating, “We are all living vicariously through you.”
King’s space flight is scheduled for Monday, April 14th, departing from Van Horn, Texas. CBS Mornings will provide special coverage of the event.
