CBS Mornings Star Gayle King Prepares for Blast Off, But Critics Aren’t Cheering

Gayle King is getting ready for her upcoming space adventure with Blue Origin, but not everyone is thrilled about the mission. The CBS Mornings co-host will join an all-female crew for Monday morning’s launch in Texas.

The historic flight includes singer Katy Perry, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, and author Lauren Sanchez. While King has previously expressed both excitement and apprehension about the trip, criticism of her participation continues to mount.

King recently shared a playful video on social media documenting her spacesuit fitting. The video shows her trying on the custom-designed blue suit, complete with a “KING” name tag.

“Here’s something I never thought I’d see. Me in an astronaut suit,” she says in the video.

“But I like it.” She playfully flips a light switch on and off, simulating a spaceship effect, and dances to ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” after learning she can keep the suit.

The video also highlights the camaraderie of the crew as they prepare for their journey.

Despite King’s enthusiasm, comments on the post reveal ongoing disapproval of the mission. Critics have called the trip a “stunt” and questioned its purpose, citing concerns about the environmental impact and the resources spent.

Some argue the money could be better used to help those in need. They also question the mission’s objective, asking what scientific or peaceful purpose it serves.

This isn’t the first time the mission has faced backlash. Other prominent media figures, including Joy Behar and Olivia Munn, have also publicly criticized the trip. While some celebrate the historic all-female crew, others continue to voice their disappointment.
