Could this BE any more exciting? The gang from Shermer High School is back together! For the first time in 40 years, the original cast of “The Breakfast Club” reunited in Chicago on Saturday to celebrate the film’s 40th anniversary.
The stars – Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez, and Anthony Michael Hall – gathered for a panel at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2). A visibly moved Ringwald, who played the “princess” Claire Standish, remarked on the emotional significance of the reunion, noting it was the first time Estevez (jock Andrew Clark) had joined such a gathering. Estevez himself admitted it was something he “needed to do,” particularly given the 40th anniversary and the film’s Chicago setting.
The group shared memories from filming, discussed the movie’s lasting impact, and fondly remembered working with the late director John Hughes. The reunion came after Estevez hinted at the event on social media last month, promising fans, “First time for everything.”
Released in February 1985, “The Breakfast Club” captured the angst and humor of teenage life, following five high school students from different cliques as they navigate a Saturday detention. The film became a cultural touchstone, grossing over $45 million worldwide. While the full cast hadn’t reunited until now, some members have remained close over the years, with Ringwald sharing a photo of a dinner date with Sheedy in 2022.
