Nashville police are searching for a man suspected of fatally stabbing his estranged wife outside an elementary school. The victim, 52-year-old Niurka Alfonso-Acevedo, was attacked Monday morning in the parking lot of Chadwell Elementary, where she worked as a custodian. Police say the stabbing occurred before students arrived for the day.
Investigators believe Alfonso-Acevedo’s estranged husband, 54-year-old Candido Raul Rubio-Perez, was waiting for her in the parking lot and fled after the attack. A school staff member discovered Alfonso-Acevedo and called 911. She had worked at the school since October.
Metro Nashville Public Schools released a statement offering condolences to Alfonso-Acevedo’s family and friends and the Chadwell Elementary community. The district confirmed there is no ongoing threat to students or staff.
Rubio-Perez is wanted for criminal homicide. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to his arrest.
