Living Like Meghan: A Royal Weekend of Recipes and Relaxation

Inspired by Meghan Markle’s Netflix show, “With Love, Meghan,” I decided to spend a weekend embracing the Duchess of Sussex’s lifestyle, complete with her recipes and hosting tips. Critics may have scoffed, but I was curious to see what all the fuss was about – beyond the ladybug crostinis and homemade jam.

My royal weekend began bright and early Saturday with avocado toast (just like Meghan!) and a trip to the local farmers market. It was there, while purchasing edible flowers for her signature floral ice cubes, that I encountered another Meghan fan – proving her influence might be stronger than critics think.

Back home, I prepared for my houseguest by creating “bookshelf blooms” (a twist on Meghan’s bedside bouquets) and those aforementioned ice cubes. While the cubes were a bit cloudy and petal-filled, the process was undeniably fun. The chilled eucalyptus towels, however, were a resounding success, transforming my bathroom into a spa-like oasis.

Saturday afternoon was dedicated to cooking. Meghan’s Chantilly Lili dessert, a layered pudding treat named after her daughter Princess Lilibet, was prepped and refrigerated, while her spring garden pasta salad proved a bit more labor-intensive. Despite the chopping marathon, the pasta salad was a hit at my friend’s barbecue later that evening.

Sunday brought a crudité platter (elevated with Swiss chard, per Meghan’s tip) and the completion of the Chantilly Lili, a light and fluffy dessert that earned rave reviews. Finally, I tackled the much-discussed snack bags, transferring pretzels and popcorn into clear containers for my departing guest. Cute, but perhaps not worth the effort.

My weekend à la Meghan was more than just an experiment in hosting. It was a refreshing break from screens and a chance to reconnect with simple pleasures like cooking and flower arranging.

While I may not adopt every one of Meghan’s practices, I discovered the joy in slowing down and savoring the little things – like the scent of eucalyptus and the vibrant colors of a homemade crudité platter. Ultimately, it’s about finding what brings you joy, whether it’s a perfectly arranged bouquet or a perfectly chilled towel.
