Family of Four Transforms Rotting RV into Stunning Mobile Home

A family of four has taken RV living to the next level, transforming a dilapidated fifth-wheel trailer into a stylish and functional home on wheels. What began as a year-long RV trip in 2016 evolved into a full-time lifestyle, leading the family to seek a more permanent and comfortable mobile dwelling.

In 2019, they found the perfect 400-square-foot fifth-wheel, complete with ample storage for their outdoor gear. However, the trailer wasn’t without its problems: Extensive floor rot meant a significant renovation was in order. Undeterred, the family saw this as an opportunity to customize their new home.

The renovation was comprehensive. The interior was gutted, dated furniture was replaced with residential-style pieces, and durable vinyl-plank flooring was installed.

The dark, dated cabinetry was refreshed with paint and new hardware. The transformation extended to the bedrooms as well.

The front room, originally a den, was converted into a kids’ room, complete with lofted beds, personalized touches like a rock-climbing wall and craft nook, and ample storage. The master bedroom received an upgrade with open shelving, roller shades, and added outlets.

Even the bathrooms and kitchen were not overlooked. Subway tile replaced dated wallpaper, and the kitchen boasts high-quality appliances, including a state-of-the-art German steam oven, perfect for the family’s resident sourdough baker.

The family’s ingenuity extended to maximizing every inch of space. Hollow steps were transformed into hidden storage compartments, demonstrating their commitment to both functionality and aesthetics. This remarkable transformation showcases how a family embraced the challenges of RV living and created a truly unique and personalized home on the road.
