Trade War Heats Up: China Threatens Retaliation Against US Trade Partners

Tensions continue to escalate in the ongoing trade dispute between the United States and China. China’s Commerce Ministry issued a stark warning on Monday, vowing to take retaliatory action against any country that strikes trade deals with the US that negatively impact China’s interests.

The ministry’s statement declared that China firmly opposes any agreements made at its expense and will respond in kind if such deals are reached. “China is determined and capable of safeguarding its own rights and interests,” the statement asserted, adding that “appeasement will not bring peace, and compromise will not be respected.”

This warning comes amidst reports that nearly 50 countries have approached US trade officials to discuss tariffs. President Trump recently suggested a trade deal with China could be reached within weeks, noting frequent communication with high-level Chinese officials.

However, China has pledged to fight a trade war “to the end,” insisting on negotiations based on “equality, respect and mutual benefit.” This latest development underscores the continuing challenges in resolving the trade war between the world’s two largest economies.
