Gabby Petito’s mother, Nichole Schmidt, recently revealed unsettling new details about the Laundrie family and the investigation into her daughter’s 2021 murder. Speaking on “The Squeeze” podcast with Tay and Taylor Lautner, Schmidt shared information she received just days before the interview, describing it as something that now “keeps her up at night.”
More than three years after Gabby’s death, Schmidt learned from an undisclosed source that Brian Laundrie’s room at his parents’ home was “completely gutted and renovated” while he was still considered a missing person. This renovation, according to Schmidt, occurred the same week Gabby was missing and police were visiting the Laundrie home attempting to obtain a scent for their search dogs. Schmidt expressed shock, stating that Laundrie’s room was “completely empty,” with all his belongings “just gone.”
The source also reportedly shared concerns about Brian Laundrie’s mother, Roberta Laundrie, describing her as “clearly not mentally well.” Schmidt added this new information to the growing list of troubling details surrounding the case.
As a refresher, Gabby Petito, 22, disappeared during a cross-country van trip with her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, in 2021. Laundrie returned to Florida in their van without Petito, and her body was later found in Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park.
Her death was ruled a homicide by manual strangulation. Laundrie subsequently disappeared and was later found dead in an apparent suicide.
Authorities determined he was responsible for Petito’s death.
Schmidt also revealed that the van Laundrie and Petito used was “completely cleaned out” after Laundrie returned home. She noted the mattress they used during their trip was never recovered, and Gabby’s belongings were packed away in a closet.
Schmidt expressed frustration that authorities never directly questioned Laundrie about Petito’s disappearance before he went missing. This, she admits, continues to haunt her.
