JFK’s Grandson Jack Schlossberg Skips Met Gala, Citing World Events

Jack Schlossberg, grandson of President John F. Kennedy, has publicly announced his decision to boycott this year’s Met Gala.

In a TikTok video, Schlossberg stated that given current global and national events, attending such a lavish party felt inappropriate. He pointed to the ongoing controversy surrounding his uncle, Robert F.

Kennedy Jr.’s appointment as Secretary of Health and Human Services, and his mother, Caroline Kennedy’s unsuccessful attempt to block the confirmation.

However, an inside source revealed that Schlossberg was not invited to the gala this year. While he attended the event in 2017, it was on his mother’s invitation.

Despite having worked for Vogue as a correspondent during the 2024 election cycle—a connection to Vogue editor and Met Gala gatekeeper Anna Wintour—Schlossberg’s freelance role wouldn’t have secured him an invitation, according to the source. Attendance at the Met Gala is typically tied to brand or designer sponsorships.

Schlossberg has been vocal on social media about his boycott, criticizing Vogue for not taking a stronger stand on political issues and suggesting corporate interests negatively influence the fashion industry. Known for his political satire, it remains unclear whether his stance on the Met Gala is serious social commentary, a publicity stunt, or both. Schlossberg indicated he would instead be focusing on launching a new “informative” live channel.

This year’s Met Gala, themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” will be held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The event benefits the Costume Institute, and a related exhibit will be open to the public following the gala. Co-chairs for the event include Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams, with LeBron James serving as an honorary chair.
