Myrtle Beach Shooting Leaves One Dead, Eleven Injured

A late-night shooting in Myrtle Beach’s popular entertainment district has left one person dead and eleven others injured. The incident occurred just before midnight on Saturday, when police responded to a disturbance involving multiple individuals. During the altercation, a suspect opened fire, prompting a responding officer to discharge their weapon.

The individual struck by the officer’s gunfire, identified as 18-year-old Jerrius Davis of Bennettsville, later succumbed to his injuries. The eleven other individuals injured in the incident are currently receiving medical treatment. The officer involved was unharmed.

Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune commended the swift action of the officer, stating their response likely prevented further tragedy. While acknowledging the gravity of the situation, Mayor Bethune emphasized that this was an isolated incident and reassured the public that Myrtle Beach remains a safe place to visit.

Representative Nancy Mace expressed her condolences and condemned the violence, stating that South Carolina stands strong against such acts. The Myrtle Beach Police Department offered prayers for the victims and their families and urged anyone with information or video footage of the incident to contact authorities. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is also involved in the investigation.
