Recall Alert: GM Trucks and SUVs Affected by Engine Failure
It seems everything is susceptible to recalls these days, even vehicles. General Motors recently announced a voluntary recall of hundreds of thousands of trucks and SUVs due to reports of complete engine failure. The company has even instructed dealerships to halt sales of affected models.
What’s the Problem?
The recall targets GM’s 6.2-liter V8 L87 engine, found in trucks and SUVs from model years 2021-2024. Thousands of customer reports of engine failure prompted a U.S.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation earlier this year. While the investigation remains ongoing, GM decided to issue the recall.
GM’s Response
GM issued a bulletin instructing dealers to stop selling vehicles equipped with the affected engine. Dealers are required to inspect the crankshaft for manufacturing defects potentially causing the engine failures. If a vehicle passes inspection, dealers must change the oil to a different weight before resuming sales.
A GM spokesperson stated the company is working to resolve “manufacturing issues affecting some engines,” emphasizing their commitment to customer safety and satisfaction and promising a swift resolution.
Affected Models
The recall includes any 2021-2024 GM vehicle with the 6.2-liter V8 L87 engine:
- Cadillac Escalade
- Cadillac Escalade ESV
- Chevrolet Silverado 1500
- Chevrolet Suburban
- Chevrolet Tahoe
- GMC Sierra 1500
- GMC Yukon
- GMC Yukon XL
Is Your Vehicle Affected?
Owners can check if their vehicle is included in the recall by entering their VIN into the GM recall website. Alternatively, check your owner’s manual for engine information or visit a GM dealership. Dealers will inspect engines for the manufacturing defect and perform necessary repairs free of charge.
