Overnight Russian aerial attacks across Ukraine Kill Two, Injure Dozens

Ukraine came under heavy fire overnight as Russia launched a wave of ballistic missiles and over 100 drones at five regions. The attacks, focusing on the east, southwest, and central areas of the country, resulted in at least two deaths and more than a dozen injuries.

Odessa, a key Black Sea port, was among the hardest hit, with a large apartment building suffering extensive damage. Images shared by Governor Oleh Kiper showed firefighters battling blazes and the aftermath of shattered storefronts. Two residents were killed and fifteen injured in the attacks, which also damaged a school and other civilian infrastructure.

Kyiv also faced bombardment, with an elderly woman hospitalized after a suspected delayed-action cluster munition explosion. City officials are investigating ten unidentified detonations in the southeastern part of the capital, believed to be linked to unexploded ordnance from downed drones.

Acting Governor Mykola Kalashnyk confirmed damage to twelve private homes and a shop, primarily from fires sparked by falling debris. He reassured residents that assistance would be provided.

Other regions targeted included Sumy, where an industrial facility sustained heavy damage, and Kharkiv, where explosions rocked the Kyivskyi district. Earlier reports indicated a gas station was hit and a warehouse complex south of the city was also damaged, suffering significant fire damage.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported intercepting or jamming 74 of the estimated 170 drones launched. The attacks follow a landmark agreement signed Wednesday between Ukraine and the United States to share Ukraine’s mineral resources, including rare earth deposits, and establish a joint investment reconstruction fund.
