Local Contestant’s ‘Price is Right’ Car Dreams Dashed by Forgotten Rule

Amidst the dazzling lights and infectious energy of “The Price is Right,” local contestant Charity experienced the thrill of possibly winning a new car, quickly followed by the agony of a missed opportunity. Her game of choice? The notoriously tricky One Away.

For those unfamiliar, One Away presents contestants with an incorrect price for a car. The goal is to adjust each digit up or down by one, guessing whether the actual digit is higher or lower.

Charity started strong, confidently adjusting the first two digits. However, a slight misunderstanding arose when she mistook the red and blue indicators (signifying lower and higher, respectively) as markers of right and wrong answers.

Host Drew Carey quickly clarified the situation, but a bigger hurdle lay ahead.

A unique quirk of One Away lies in the “sound effects lady,” who confirms the number of correct digits with a honk. Crucially, contestants must ask her – specifically – for this information.

While Charity remembered this initially, the pressure mounted as the game progressed. Carey reminded her, “You kind of have to beg her for each one of the numbers.”

Unfortunately, Charity faltered, forgetting the all-important sound effects lady mid-game, much to Carey’s amusement.

Despite the slip-up, Charity had three out of five digits correct. With a final chance to adjust her guess of $19,485, she landed on $17,285.

Sadly, the actual price was $19,287, a mere two digits away from her original guess. While Charity’s dream car drove off without her, she certainly provided an entertaining moment for viewers and a valuable lesson for future contestants: never forget the sound effects lady!
