Meghan Markle’s Recent NYC Outing Draws Criticism Over Security Measures

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has recently faced public scrutiny over her lifestyle brand, Netflix series, and podcast. Now, the 43-year-old is facing new criticism regarding her security detail during an April 10th visit to New York City.

During her visit, which included dinner at Ralph Lauren’s Polo Bar and a Broadway showing of Gypsy, Markle reportedly traveled with a four-car motorcade. The motorcade, consisting of three SUVs and an unmarked NYPD vehicle reportedly containing two intel detectives, attracted attention and sparked debate on social media. Three of the vehicles were allegedly decoys, employed as an added safety precaution.

The size of the security detail prompted questions and negative commentary online. Social media users questioned the necessity of such extensive security measures, with some questioning who footed the bill.

Others criticized Markle’s perceived self-importance and desire for attention. The incident follows a similar use of a four-car motorcade the following week, when Markle attended a TIME 100 summit, also in New York.
