A US tourist visiting Rome was seriously injured after impaling himself on a fence at the Colosseum. The 47-year-old, who lives in Taiwan, was reportedly trying to climb over the fence, possibly for a better view, when the accident occurred.
Dozens of horrified onlookers witnessed the incident and called for help as the man screamed in pain before losing consciousness. Emergency responders worked for over 20 minutes to free him from the fence.
He was then rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery, receiving over 80 stitches to close the wound on his lower back. The man, who was traveling with family and friends, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
