Tallahassee, FL — Phoenix Ikner, the suspect in the April 17th Florida State University shooting, has been transferred to the Wakulla County Detention Facility following his release from a local hospital. Ikner, 20, underwent multiple surgeries for injuries sustained during the shooting, where he allegedly opened fire, killing two men and injuring six others.
Campus police shot Ikner in the jaw during their response. A new mugshot reveals the extent of his facial injuries.
Ikner faces two counts of first-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder. His transfer to Wakulla County is standard procedure, as he is the stepson of a Leon County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
The firearm used in the shooting reportedly belonged to Ikner’s mother, Jessica Ikner, a long-serving officer with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office. An investigation into how Ikner obtained the weapon is ongoing.
Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell reaffirmed the department’s commitment to transparency and community safety. The probable cause affidavit will be released to the public following Ikner’s first court appearance, scheduled for Tuesday at 11 a.m.
Prior to the shooting, Ikner, a political science major, was quoted in a student newspaper article covering anti-Trump protests. The publication has since removed the quote, citing journalistic ethics and a desire to avoid amplifying the voice of someone responsible for violence. Court records also reveal that Ikner’s mother allegedly kidnapped him in 2015, taking him to Norway in violation of a custody agreement.
