Bindi Irwin’s Appendix Burst During Gala Trip

Additional Coverage:

Bindi Irwin is recovering well after undergoing emergency surgery for appendicitis and endometriosis. The 26-year-old conservationist shared a video update from her hospital bed on Monday, thanking well-wishers for their support.

The procedure, which took place shortly before the annual Steve Irwin Gala, involved the removal of Irwin’s appendix and 14 endometriosis lesions. She also underwent a hernia repair.

Irwin expressed her gratitude to her medical team at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. She explained that after experiencing months of discomfort from her appendix, she consulted with her doctor and decided to travel to New York for surgery, where her physician could also address her endometriosis. This is not Irwin’s first experience with endometriosis; she underwent surgery two years ago to remove 37 lesions and a cyst.

While disappointed to miss the gala, Irwin thanked her brother, Robert, for hosting the event and raising funds for Wildlife Warriors. Robert spoke at the gala about his sister’s unexpected surgery, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing health.

He shared that Bindi had been experiencing significant pain leading up to the event but was determined to attend. Ultimately, her medical team decided surgery could not wait.

In her social media post, Bindi also expressed appreciation for her family’s unwavering support, especially her mother, husband Chandler, and daughter Grace. While she was unable to attend the Las Vegas gala, she looks forward to the Brisbane event in November.

In 2023, Irwin spoke publicly about her struggles with endometriosis, describing the debilitating pain she experienced for a decade before receiving a diagnosis. She shared that the surgery significantly improved her quality of life.
