Music legend Elton John slams UK government’s AI plans as ‘thievery on a high scale’.
Legendary singer-songwriter Elton John has launched a scathing attack on the UK government’s proposed AI legislation. The new rules would allow tech companies to use copyrighted creative works to train AI models without needing permission or offering compensation.
In a fiery interview, the 78-year-old artist didn’t mince words, labeling government ministers “absolute losers” and accusing them of “committing theft, thievery on a high scale.” John expressed his anger and betrayal, arguing that the legislation would disproportionately impact young artists who lack the resources to fight powerful tech corporations. He warned that the policy would effectively “rob young people of their legacy and their income.”
John further declared his readiness to challenge the government in court, urging Prime Minister Keir Starmer to reconsider the legislation. He vowed to “fight it all the way” to protect artists’ rights. This follows similar concerns raised by other prominent musicians, including Sir Paul McCartney, who warned earlier this year about the potential for AI to stifle creativity and exploit artists.
