Before her royal life and starring role on Suits, Meghan Markle lived a more humble existence. In a recent episode of her podcast, “Confessions of a Female Founder,” the Duchess of Sussex reminisced with her former stylist, Cassandra Morales Thurswell, about her pre-fame days, including the less-than-glamorous “bungalow” she rented.
Markle described the tight quarters, where the closet was accessible only through the bathroom – and past the bed and shower. Thurswell jokingly referred to the small space as a “chic bungalow.”
Markle explained how this period, during her early acting auditions, taught her resourcefulness. She recounted a story about a coveted pair of $200 Louboutin wedge flats, a significant purchase at the time.
Thurswell encouraged her to buy them, and Markle ultimately wore the shoes to her successful Suits audition.
Markle’s big break on Suits came after a series of guest appearances and minor roles. She continued on the show for seven seasons before departing in 2018 to marry Prince Harry. The couple now have two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Markle also shared that her experience of motherhood differed from her pre-children vision. She had imagined effortlessly balancing speeches with a baby on her hip, but the realities of her life, particularly with the added pressures of royal life and the birth of both children, presented different challenges.
Since stepping back from royal duties and relocating to Montecito, California in 2020, Markle has embarked on new ventures. These include her lifestyle brand, As Ever, whose initial limited offerings sold out rapidly, and the Netflix lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan.
