Walmart Restructures Global Tech Team, Cutting 1,500 Jobs
Bentonville, AR – Walmart announced a restructuring of its Global Tech team on Wednesday, resulting in approximately 1,500 job cuts. The company emphasized that these cuts will affect corporate employees, not store associates.
In a memo to employees, Walmart executives explained the move as a necessary step to streamline operations and increase efficiency in the face of a rapidly changing technological landscape. The restructuring aims to “speed up decision-making” and “remove layers and complexity,” according to Global Chief Technology Officer Suresh Kumar and US CEO John Furner.
While eliminating some roles, Walmart also indicated that new positions will be created as part of the restructuring. This move comes amidst recent announcements of price increases due to tariffs and a reported drop in profits for the quarter ending April 30th. The retail giant currently employs approximately 1.6 million people and operates 4,600 locations across the United States.
