College Park, MD – Kermit the Frog hopped onto the University of Maryland’s commencement stage Thursday, offering the Class of 2025 some surprisingly sage advice. The appearance held special significance, as the university is the alma mater of Muppets creator, Jim Henson.
In a “Ker-mencement” address filled with wit and wisdom, Kermit encouraged graduates to embrace three key principles: finding your community, taking leaps of faith, and building connections. “Rather than jumping over someone to get what you want,” he advised, “consider reaching out your hand and taking the leap side by side, because life is better when we leap together.”
The beloved amphibian also reflected on Henson’s time at the university, drawing laughs with a playful jab at the student union’s past culinary offerings. But the heart of his message centered on the importance of friendship and celebrating individuality.
“Life is not a solo act,” Kermit declared. “It’s a big, messy, delightful ensemble piece, especially when you’re with your people.”
The ceremony culminated in a heartwarming sing-along, with Kermit leading the graduating class in a rendition of his signature song, “Rainbow Connection.”
