Esai Morales Steps in to Host National Memorial Day Concert

Actor Esai Morales (Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning) stepped up to host this year’s National Memorial Day Concert after longtime host Joe Mantegna withdrew due to a last-minute health issue. Mantegna, a 20-year veteran of the event, was originally slated to co-host alongside Gary Sinise for his 20th year.

While Mantegna expressed his regret at being unable to attend, he voiced strong support for Morales and the importance of the concert. “This concert is a powerful reminder of what Memorial Day truly represents,” Mantegna stated earlier. He later shared a message on social media thanking Morales for stepping in and wishing him and Sinise a successful event.

Sinise, who continued his role as co-host, echoed the sentiment of honoring American heroes past and present. This year’s ceremony featured an expanded lineup, with Robert Patrick commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, Gretchen Mol leading the Gold Star Families tribute, and Blair Underwood honoring Vietnam War Dustoff Crews. Musical performances included Mary McCormack, Loren Allred, Scotty Hasting, Yolanda Adams, and Angel Blue, accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra.

The 36th annual concert aired live on PBS on Sunday, May 25th, and was broadcast to military personnel worldwide via the Armed Forces Network.
