Taylor Swift Owns Her Masters, Gives Update on Final Re-Recordings
Pop superstar Taylor Swift, now the proud owner of her entire music catalog, has offered fans an update on the status of her final two re-recorded albums. In a letter posted on her official website, Swift revealed she purchased the masters to her first six albums from Shamrock Capital. This landmark achievement was made possible by the resounding success of her re-recording project and the global phenomenon that was the Eras Tour.
While “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” and “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” have already graced our ears, fans eagerly await the re-recordings of her debut album and “Reputation.” Swift confirmed that her self-titled debut album has been fully re-recorded and expressed her satisfaction with the results.
However, “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)” presents a unique challenge. Swift admitted to only completing a fraction of the re-recording, explaining that the album’s deeply personal and specific nature made it difficult to revisit.
She acknowledged the raw emotionality of the original, from its defiance and vulnerability to its mischievous undertones.
While not ruling out a future release, Swift emphasized any re-emergence of these albums would be driven by celebration rather than a sense of longing. She hinted at the potential release of unreleased “vault tracks” from “Reputation” and expressed openness to revisiting both albums if it’s something fans desire.
Swift’s debut album, featuring hits like “Teardrops On My Guitar” and “Our Song,” was originally released in 2006. “Reputation,” her sixth studio album and a Grammy nominee, arrived in 2017. Fans have already had a sneak peek of “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)” with the re-recorded “Look What You Made Me Do,” featured in both the “Wilderness” teaser trailer and an episode of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
