Mummified Baby Found in Dry Cleaning Laundry Shipment

Additional Coverage:

Shreveport Police are investigating the bizarre case of a mummified infant found in a laundry shipment.

Employees at Alsco Uniforms on Hollywood Avenue made the unsettling discovery Tuesday night after initially mistaking the body for a doll. The infant, described as mummified, was wrapped in linens and emitting a strong odor of formaldehyde.

Police traced the linens back to Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. The child, whose clothing bore the initials “K.M.”, reportedly died on May 3 and was scheduled for cremation following a May 17 funeral service. Instead, the body somehow ended up in the laundry shipment bound for Shreveport.

While foul play isn’t suspected, negligence appears to be a factor. “This is a deeply distressing situation,” stated Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the child as this investigation unfolds.” The investigation continues.
