Catawba County Shooting Leaves One Dead, Eleven Injured

Mountain View, NC – A house party in Mountain View turned tragic early Sunday morning as gunfire erupted, leaving one person dead and eleven others wounded. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of shots fired at a residence around 12:45 a.m., finding a chaotic scene with multiple victims.

According to Major Aaron Turk of the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, one victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while another was critically injured and transported to a Charlotte hospital. The remaining ten victims were taken to local hospitals, with some already treated and released. The severity of the remaining injuries has not yet been disclosed.

Investigators believe more than 80 shots were fired from multiple weapons by more than one shooter. While dozens of people, including teenagers, were present at the party, authorities are still working to determine the motive for the shooting and identify the individuals responsible.

The incident occurred less than two hours after deputies responded to a noise complaint at the same residence. While officers spoke with individuals at the home, they left shortly afterward. Major Turk stated that the shooting appears to be targeted and not a random act of violence.

Sheriff Donald Brown emphasized the rarity of such an incident in Catawba County, expressing frustration and concern for the community. The FBI is assisting local authorities with the ongoing investigation.
