Puerto Vallarta: My Favorite Mexican Getaway

I’ve been lucky enough to travel to over 20 countries, and while each place has its own charm, Puerto Vallarta holds a special place in my heart. This vibrant Mexican city, nestled on the country’s west coast, offers so much more than just your typical resort experience. From stunning beaches to a bustling downtown, and with a dash of adventure thrown in, Puerto Vallarta truly has something for everyone.

A Foodie’s Paradise: From Street Tacos to Sunset Dinners

One of the greatest joys of traveling is experiencing the local cuisine, and Puerto Vallarta doesn’t disappoint. For a taste of authentic street food, head to Pancho’s Takos.

Be prepared to queue – the al pastor tacos are legendary! The good news is, the wait gives you a chance to soak in the downtown atmosphere and enjoy the street performers.

If you’re looking for a more refined dining experience, the restaurants along Playa Los Muertos are a must-try. El Dorado is a personal favorite.

Fresh seafood, handcrafted cocktails, and attentive service, all while dining with your toes in the sand – pure bliss! Pro tip: make a reservation for sunset; it’s an unforgettable experience.

Dancing the Night Away in Zona Romántica

Puerto Vallarta’s nightlife is electric and inclusive. The Zona Romántica, reminiscent of West Hollywood, is the heart of the action.

As the sun sets, the streets come alive with music and energy. Whether you’re looking for a lively bar or a buzzing nightclub, you’ll find it here.

Outdoor Adventures Await

Beyond the beaches and nightlife, Puerto Vallarta offers a wealth of outdoor activities. Hikers should check out the Palo Maria waterfall trail. It’s a moderately challenging hike that leads to a refreshing swimming hole and waterfall – perfect for cooling off and snapping some photos.

Nature lovers will be thrilled by the whale watching opportunities (December through March) and the chance to explore the underwater world at Los Arcos National Marine Park. I opted for a kayaking tour through the Garza Blanca Resort, but boat tours are also available. Snorkeling amongst the vibrant marine life is an experience you won’t want to miss.

From relaxing on pristine beaches to dancing the night away and exploring the natural wonders, Puerto Vallarta has captured my heart. It’s a destination I find myself returning to again and again, and I can’t wait for my next visit.
