Donnie Wahlberg Wants Tom Selleck for Boston Blue
The upcoming Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue, starring Donnie Wahlberg, is set to premiere this fall. Wahlberg reprises his role as Danny Reagan, now with the Boston Police Department.
Joining him are Sonequa Martin-Green, Ernie Hudson, and Maggie Lawson. However, Wahlberg is hoping to add another familiar face to the cast: Tom Selleck, who played Danny’s father, Frank Reagan, in the original series.
Reports indicate Wahlberg is actively campaigning for Selleck to join the spinoff. Wahlberg and Selleck remain close, and Wahlberg is reportedly aware of Selleck’s disappointment over the cancellation of Blue Bloods.
Sources suggest Wahlberg feels a sense of loyalty to Selleck and wants him to be part of the new venture. He also simply enjoys working with his former co-star.
Selleck has previously spoken about the close bonds formed among the Blue Bloods cast and the importance of the “family” dynamic to the show’s success. He expressed openness to spinoff ideas, acknowledging the audience’s connection to the Reagan family. He also emphasized the continued strength of Blue Bloods right up to its final episode.
After a 14-season run, Blue Bloods concluded earlier this year. Whether Selleck will join the Boston Blue cast remains to be seen, but Wahlberg is clearly determined to make it happen.
