“Wheel of Fortune” contestant Ray Wilson, of Atlanta, recently went home with over $23,000 in cash and prizes – but just missed out on a new Lincoln. After a successful run against contestants Emily Nichols and Mike Rowitz, Wilson made it to the bonus round.
During introductions, Wilson and host Ryan Seacrest bonded over their shared fear of heights. Wilson recounted a near-miss at the Grand Canyon, while Seacrest admitted to his own acrophobia. Luckily for Wilson, the “Wheel” set was firmly on the ground, and he sailed through the initial rounds.
In the bonus round, with the category “What Are You Doing?” and the letters “R, S, T, L, N, E” already displayed, Wilson chose “G, M, C, and A” for his additional letters.
The puzzle read “C_ _ _ _NG _ _ _ _ AT _ _ME.” Despite some close guesses, including “Cooking Up At Home” and “Cooking It At Home,” Wilson couldn’t crack the code.
Seacrest revealed the answer: “Cozying It Up At Home,” along with the news that the accompanying prize was a brand-new Lincoln.
While Wilson seemed happy with his winnings, some fans expressed disappointment at the recent string of bonus round losses on social media. One commenter noted, “Lots of puzzles containing difficult letters stopped them from winning the bonus round!!!”
This wasn’t Seacrest’s only recent candid moment. He recently shared a funny story about one of his biggest on-air slip-ups during his time on “American Idol.”
