Rocker Fights ICE in LA Protests

Additional Coverage:

Rock musician Tom Morello joined protestors in Los Angeles on Monday, June 9, demonstrating against recent ICE raids. The Rage Against the Machine guitarist documented his participation on Instagram, sharing photos of himself holding a “Defend L.A.” sign and wearing a shirt emblazoned with the slogan “Destroy American Fascism.”

One image showcased the back of his guitar with an expletive directed at ICE. Morello captioned the photos with the hashtags #DefendLA and #WhatBetterPlaceThanHereWhatBetterTimeThanNow.

This isn’t Morello’s first foray into political activism. He recently backed Bruce Springsteen in his ongoing feud with President Trump, and earlier this year expressed concerns about “American fascism” to Rolling Stone AU/NZ, citing the suppression of inclusive language as a “significant warning sign.”

The protests, sparked by ICE raids at various Los Angeles workplaces, have spread nationwide. President Trump’s deployment of the National Guard and Marines has further fueled the demonstrations, with federal agents reportedly using rubber bullets and tear gas against protestors. California Attorney General Rob Bonta has filed suit against the Trump administration, challenging the deployment of 2,000 National Guard members.
