Kelly Ripa Credits Husband Mark Consuelos’ High-Protein Diet for Oscars Dress Triumph
Kelly Ripa revealed on “Live with Kelly and Mark” that she successfully fit into her Oscars gown thanks to a last-minute dietary intervention from her husband, Mark Consuelos. Ripa had been struggling to zip her side-zip dress and described the painful experience of getting “side skin zipped” into the garment. Consuelos suggested she try his high-protein diet, and despite her initial reluctance, Ripa agreed to follow it for 72 hours.
The diet, which Ripa admitted was “way too disciplined” for her usual lifestyle, included foods like steak, yogurt, and vegetables. While not a fan of animal protein, Ripa acknowledged the diet’s effectiveness, stating, “That dress zipped right up, no side skin… I looked super fit.”
Consuelos emphasized the importance of pairing increased protein intake with adequate fiber for gut health and disease prevention. He highlighted protein’s role in building lean muscle, boosting immunity, and aiding weight loss. Current dietary guidelines recommend 22-28 grams of daily fiber for adult women and 28-34 grams for adult men.
While a high-protein diet can be effective for short-term weight loss, experts caution against overconsumption. Sports dietitian Nancy Clark notes that excessive protein can displace carbohydrates, which are essential for fueling muscles.
