VJ’s Last Text to Friend Revealed

Former MTV VJ Ananda Lewis passed away this week, according to a Facebook post by her sister. Lewis, who publicly battled breast cancer, was remembered by friends and colleagues on CNN.

Correspondent Stephanie Elam shared a touching final text message from Lewis, revealing the VJ’s peaceful acceptance of her fate. “You know my feelings on this,” Lewis wrote.

“We all go. These bodies are on loan and must be returned.

We come in love and choose to leave it with love as well. I love you my wonderful lifelong bestie of besties.”

Lewis first announced her stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis in 2020, encouraging women to get regular mammograms. She later revealed in 2024 that the cancer had progressed to stage 4.

At that time, she discussed her decision to forgo a double mastectomy in favor of a holistic approach, focusing on detoxification, medication, radiation, and improved sleep and diet. Elam acknowledged Lewis’s steadfast commitment to her chosen treatment path, even as friends encouraged her to consider other options.
