Newark, NJ – Two of the four escaped detainees from the Delaney Hall ICE detention facility have been apprehended, the FBI announced Sunday. Joel Enrique Sandoval-Lopez and Joan Sebastian Castaneda-Lozada, both Honduran nationals, are now in custody.
The two remaining escapees, Franklin Norberto Bautista Reyes and Andres Felipe Pineda Mogollon, also Honduran nationals, are still at large. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to their capture.
All four men were deemed public safety threats by the Department of Homeland Security. Bautista-Reyes was arrested in May for aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and weapons possession.
Sandoval-Lopez had two arrests, one for unlawful possession of a handgun and another for aggravated assault. Castaneda-Lozada was arrested for burglary, theft, and conspiracy.
Pineda-Mogollon was arrested for larceny and later for residential burglary and possession of burglary tools.
The escape occurred on the evening of June 12th. While reports indicate around 50 detainees pushed down a dormitory wall after becoming agitated over delayed meals, DHS disputes claims of widespread unrest, stating the facility maintains high standards of care and services. Around the time of the escape, protestors reportedly blocked a vehicle from exiting the facility.
