Got a Whirlpool, KitchenAid, or Maytag fridge made between 2012 and 2019? You might be eligible for some cash back! A settlement has been reached regarding a defect causing excessive frost buildup on the evaporator, which can impact the fridge’s ability to keep food cold.
While Whirlpool hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing, they’ve agreed to compensate owners of affected models. Depending on the age of your refrigerator at the time of repair, you could receive up to $300 for past repairs or 75% of the original purchase price for replacements. Even if you experience frost buildup after January 31, 2025, you’re still covered, but you must file your claim online by June 18, 2025.
Not sure if your fridge is affected? Check the settlement website for eligible model numbers.
Here are a few signs your fridge might be struggling:
- Food spoiling quickly: If your groceries are going bad prematurely, your fridge might not be maintaining the proper temperature.
- Strange noises: While some humming is normal, loud clunking, buzzing, or rattling could signal a problem.
- Water pooling or excessive frost: These can indicate leaks, clogs, or faulty door seals.
- Higher energy bills: A malfunctioning fridge might be working overtime, leading to increased energy consumption.
If you notice any of these issues, check your fridge’s settings, clean the condenser coils, and inspect the door seals. If problems persist, contact your retailer or manufacturer for assistance.
