Ready-to-Eat Pasta Recalled After Listeria Outbreak

A multi-state listeria outbreak linked to ready-to-eat pasta products has resulted in three deaths and one pregnancy loss. Seventeen illnesses across 13 states have also been reported. The contaminated products, various chicken fettuccine Alfredo meals sold under the Marketside and Home Chef brands, were available at Walmart and Kroger stores.

FreshRealm, the manufacturer of the recalled products, has production facilities in California, Georgia, and Indiana. They have issued a voluntary recall for all affected products produced before June 17th.

The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert on Tuesday, urging consumers to discard or return any recalled pasta.

The recalled products include:

  • Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken and Shaved Parmesan Cheese (32.8-ounce tray) with a best-by date of June 27 or earlier.
  • Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken, Broccoli and Shaved Parmesan Cheese (12.3-ounce tray) with a best-by date of June 26 or earlier.
  • Home Chef Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo with Pasta, Grilled White Meat Chicken and Parmesan Cheese (12.5-ounce tray) with a best-by date of June 19 or earlier.

These refrigerated, ready-to-microwave meals were sold between August 2024 and May 2025. Frozen meals from these brands are not affected by the recall.

Listeria infection, or listeriosis, can cause severe illness and even death in vulnerable populations, including older adults, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions, and sometimes diarrhea or other gastrointestinal issues.

The FSIS and the FDA are working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to investigate the source of the contamination and determine the necessary steps to protect public health. While the source remains unknown, consumers are urged to heed the recall notice and exercise caution.
