Kyiv Hit by Deadly Russian Drone and Missile Attack
Kyiv, Ukraine – A devastating Russian drone and missile attack struck Ukraine’s capital overnight, claiming the lives of at least five people and injuring several others. Emergency services worked tirelessly Monday morning to rescue those trapped beneath the rubble of a partially collapsed five-story apartment building in the Shevchenkivskyi district.
The attack, which targeted residential areas, hospitals, and sports infrastructure in several districts, also caused casualties in Bila Tserkva, a city about 53 miles southwest of Kyiv. One person was killed and eight others were injured there.
This latest attack comes just a week after a similar assault on Kyiv resulted in 28 deaths, 23 of whom perished in a residential building destroyed by a direct missile hit. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described that attack as one of the most intense bombardments of the ongoing four-year war.
In Kyiv, a pregnant woman was among the ten rescued from a high-rise building near the collapsed structure. The scene was chaotic, with dozens of burned and mangled vehicles littering the courtyard. Onlookers watched in tears as volunteers cleared debris and broken glass.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, speaking at the scene, expressed hope that the death toll would not rise, but acknowledged that rescue workers were still searching for victims.
The attack follows increased tension between Russia and the U.S. after joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend. While the Kremlin has condemned the strikes, it indicated that communication channels with the U.S. remain open.
