Will Harry’s Kids Be Royal? William Says No.

Additional Coverage:

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children, Archie and Lilibet, are unlikely to have formal roles within the British monarchy when Prince William becomes king. Royal experts weighed in on the matter, citing the children’s upbringing in the United States and lack of exposure to royal life as key factors.

Kinsey Schofield, host of the “To Di For Daily” podcast, called the Sussexes’ reported hope that their children might one day choose to be working royals “delusional,” emphasizing their American upbringing and distance from the monarchy. Schofield also pointed to Prince Harry’s memoir, “Spare,” and his departure from royal life as further reasons why such a scenario is improbable. British broadcaster Helena Chard echoed these sentiments, questioning why Harry and Meghan would even want this for their children after their public criticism of the royal family.

Reports suggest that Harry desired to retain HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles for his children so they could decide their own future roles. However, experts believe Prince William has no intention of granting them formal positions.

The strained relationship between the brothers, fueled by Harry and Meghan’s exit from royal duties and subsequent tell-all interviews, further complicates the situation. Royal editor Roya Nikkhah noted that William’s anger towards his brother has reportedly shifted to indifference.

While the possibility of reconciliation remains, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams acknowledged the potential for negative publicity if William were to remove the children’s HRH titles, which they are currently entitled to under a 1917 decree. Another expert, Hilary Fordwich, argued that the damage to the brothers’ relationship is irreparable, emphasizing the breach of trust caused by Harry’s memoir. Fordwich believes William is focused on his own family and royal duties, seeing his brother’s actions as beyond his control.

William is reportedly prioritizing his family and his work with world leaders and philanthropic endeavors, supported by his wife, Kate Middleton. He is said to be unfazed by criticism and determined to protect his family.

Meanwhile, experts suggest that bringing Harry and Meghan’s children into the royal fold would be met with resistance from within the palace, highlighting the dedication, discipline, and loyalty required for royal service. They dismiss the notion that the children’s involvement could pave the way for Harry and Meghan’s return as “preposterous.”
