Ellesmere Port Mourns Beloved Feline “Roaming Ronnie”

The Ellesmere Port community is grieving the loss of a beloved local cat known as “Roaming Ronnie,” who tragically died on June 19th. Ronnie, a friendly Maine Coon, was known for his gentle nature and love of exploring.

His owner, Kim Woods Rogers, created a Facebook page, “Roaming Ronnie,” to chronicle his adventures and reassure residents who often spotted him around town. Ronnie was a regular visitor to local schools, shops, and even the hospital, endearing himself to many.

Ms. Rogers described Ronnie as “so gentle and funny,” with a “grumpy little face which just made you laugh.” She explained that the Facebook page was created after numerous calls from concerned residents who had encountered the adventurous feline.

The circumstances surrounding Ronnie’s death have compounded Ms. Rogers’ grief.

Initial reports indicated he was hit by a car. However, Ms.

Rogers was later informed by a witness that a student from The Whitby High School allegedly kicked Ronnie into the road during a year 11 leavers’ assembly. The witness further stated that the student laughed about the incident afterward.

Understandably distraught, Ms. Rogers expressed her anger and disbelief, stating, “A cat’s life is just as important.

They’re so innocent and pure… It’s not ‘just a cat.'” She emphasized the impact of the loss and her determination to ensure the student understands the gravity of his actions.

The Whitby High School released a statement confirming they are working with the police and RSPCA, stating the matter has been “dealt with appropriately.” The school also noted that Ms. Rogers expressed satisfaction with their response.

Cheshire Police confirmed they received a report of a cat possibly being deliberately kicked into the road and subsequently killed. They have referred the incident to the school and RSPCA. The RSPCA has not yet commented on the matter.
