Walmart’s Great Value Milk: Still Spoiling Too Soon?
For years, budget-conscious shoppers have relied on Walmart’s Great Value brand for affordable groceries. However, a persistent issue continues to plague the retailer: customers report that Great Value milk often spoils before its printed expiration date.
This isn’t a new complaint. Back in 2018, NewsChannel 15 interviewed a shopper whose milk spoiled five days before the expiration date.
At the time, Walmart assured the public they were investigating. Yet, recent complaints on social media platforms like Reddit suggest the problem persists.
One Reddit user sparked a discussion, with other users chiming in to share similar experiences. Some suggested avoiding the brand altogether, while others offered advice on proper milk storage.
One user even speculated that the issue stemmed from suppliers printing inaccurate expiration dates due to market fluctuations and tariffs. Another user countered, asserting that spoilage is solely a function of storage temperature.
Adding fuel to the fire, a TikTok user recently claimed that policy changes have led the FDA to halt milk quality testing for all but a few organic brands, impacting retailers like Walmart, Kroger, and Aldi.
While some theories surrounding the spoiled milk remain speculative, the recurring complaints raise questions about quality control and highlight consumer frustration with the persistent issue.
