Kroger to Shutter 60 Stores Across the US
Grocery giant Kroger has announced the closure of 60 stores spanning 12 states over the next 18 months. While the company anticipates financial gains from these closures, they assure customers this will not affect their full-year guidance. Kroger has pledged to reinvest the savings into enhancing the customer experience and offer affected employees positions at other locations.
Although Kroger hasn’t officially released the full list of closing stores, information compiled from union disclosures and media reports reveals a number of locations already slated for closure. These include stores in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Several closing dates have been confirmed, ranging from June 10, 2025, to October 18, 2025, while others remain undetermined. Several of the closures involve Kroger subsidiaries such as Harris Teeter, Jay C, Mariano’s, and Pick ‘n Save.
